Simon McKenzie

I have enjoyed cycling for the last 10 years and always fancied the challenge of being able to go further, climb higher and go faster – though not wishing to compete. I had been meandering a bit with training – picking things up from Zwift but with no specific structure or focus when I came across John a few years ago now. I am gone 50 now and one of John’s strengths has been to identify with me as an older athlete. First thing he did was make me cut down on the number of hours I spent on cardio. As a result of less hours, though structured training, I have been able to achieve my goals of riding further, climb higher and go faster – most importantly, a lot more comfortably! I have ridden 400km plus in a day and been able to do family things the next day!! John and I have spent time discussing time of day training, food intake and general well being which has enabled me to sleep and recover better – way beyond what I initially signed up for. Over the last 4 months, John has built a strength session into my weekly programme which I am very much enjoying and finding it improving my all round health & well being. I also enjoy swimming which is part of my programme and I have found my performance in the pool has improved too.

John has gotten me into some local road bike TTs – I said I didn’t want to compete… whilst I have not gone fully pointy hat and TT bike – I did enjoy them and beat everyone within 20 years of my age (not wishing to compete mind….)

I highly recommend John – I have found his insight and experience both challenging and useful as I have got more mature in my years (whether I like the aging process is another matter!!). I feel as fit now as I ever have been and generally feel full of energy.
